Red Faction: Armageddon Review
I've found that the best games never get repetitive, Red Faction: Armageddon definitely does. Although the campaign does exactly this, that's not the reason to play this game, it's the co-op multiplayer mode: Infestation...
I feel so sorry for this game, Red Faction: Guerrilla was great, and I thought this could live up to expectation, but no, it has a repetitive storyline and the characters are never developed into anyone you care about.

Let's start with the campaign, after the Mars Terraformer was destroyed by Adam Hale, the colonies moved underground, a couple of years later, Mason releases an alien plague upon the underworld and must save them, with a load of cool weapons.
There are a ton of side characters, who I felt were more developed than Darius, like, I was gutted when Cara died and I felt that they built up the character of Winters really well. But Darius was just, well, this guy... who... did stuff, and not much else... Regardless, completing the campaign gives you access to 'New Game PLUS' which gives you extra features in-game and a fun unicorn *lolz* weapon to be used in the Infestation mode. |
This game has an awesome multiplayer mode, Infestation. A solo/multiplayer mode in which you kill aliens in arena matches as one of four characters, this is one of the best survival/defense modes I've played in a while. Although this section seems like 'just another third-person shooter', it's actually the best part of the game, also, the weapon and character customization and upgrade system add to the fun.
The destruction mechanics in this game are also really good, much better than those in Red Faction: Guerrilla. Also, there are loads of cool new weapons, my favourite is by far the magnet gun, what you do is you fire an 'Anchor' and an 'Attractor' to unleash destructive havoc on the world around you, not that this will be put to much use, the game is set in the same cave environments the whole time, except for maybe one short section above land... |
Overall, this is an average game. Unfortunately, it's the multiplayer (a mode that was meant to be relatively small) that makes this game even half-decent, the campaign is boring and repetitive but the destruction mechanics are amazing so that's all good.
