BattleBlock Theater Review
The Behemoth is one of my favourite game developers, and I thoroughly enjoyed 'Alien Hominid HD' and 'Castle Crashers'.
BattleBlock Theater is their new game and I have to say, well, I was disappointed. The platformer style is new for the Behemoth and I don't think they've done it as good as they could have. But anyway, here's the review:

In the campaign, you must save your friend, Hatty Hattington from the evil cats by completing stage plays for them. This is pretty much the whole story, but the narrator provides a ton of witty humour, both in-game and in the really funny 'intermissions' between chapters.
During the game, you'll collect gems and yarn, which can be used to buy heads and weapons, respectively. Now, this bit is great, there are over 100 heads and over 10 weapons to collect, and the amount of variety in these keeps this very interesting. Plus, the game features a co-op campaign, but, don't bother using a guest account, because that player will begin without any weapons or heads and, even if you collect a few, they won't show up next time you play... |
Anyways, the campaign is pretty good but does become extremely repetetive after chapter 2, yes, the puzzles become very challenging and complex later on, but overall, it's just the same old uzzles over and over again.
Now for the REAL multiplayer mode. There is a local and online multiplayer mode, sadly, the online requires gold. There are 8 modes: Soul, Muckle, Challenge, King Of The Hill, Colour The World, Grab The Gold, Ball Game and Horse, all of these are really wacky game modes, that you wouldn't expect to see in your everyday XBLA game. It also has a level editor which has loads of features and even more can be gained from getting Castle Crashers and Alien Hominid HD, but sadly, you have to create levels in groups/'playlists' of three! What? AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT! |
Overall, BattleBlock Theater is a good game with an average campaign, an okay level editor and a badass multiplayer.
We award BattleBlock Theater... |
